What do you do when you are lying in bed and sick with the flu ?
Go on Pinterest of course !!!
In the old days it was just watch TV on the lounge, snuggled under a blanket with the dog for company and a cuppa tea.
Nowadays we have the world in our hands, and TV doesn’t get a look in. Blogs, Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest these days are our entertainment, and a way to explore the world, connect with people and find some amazing ideas. Pinterest was the social platform that I turned too when sick a few weeks ago. Searching the site and blogs for ideas, in sewing, recycling and repurposing. This is where I found a quick and easy repurpose make for my newly sorted sewing room.
I think the idea has been floating around on the site for a few years, but I knew I could make it in just an hour.

This easy ironing board side table would fit perfect in my room and I would now be able to iron every project in the same room I was making it in, not constantly getting up and going to my bedroom (where my ironing board lives) to iron something.
I found this tutorial on Just Crafty Enough blog, and following the instructions, had my side table ironing board, made within the hour.

I had the side table for years and it had been moved from room to room, so now it has a definite purpose and I can still fold it up and put it away if I need to. I think it was bought at Fantastic Furniture for something like $15 to $20 dollars, I don’t know if they still sell them, but I always see them for sale at the Op shops. Actually you could use an old side table, just pad and cover a piece of plywood cut to size and then screw it to the top of the side table from underneath, and voila!!! It wouldn’t be foldable (obviously) but you would have draws for storage.
I didn’t even have to buy anything for the make, which is always very good.
I used an old hand towel trimmed to size for a bit of padding and of course some denim to top it all off. The only problem I encountered was the staple gun. I always have problems with my staple gun, I don’t know why (maybe just need a new one) but the staples don’t always go in and I end up yelling at it and eventually chilling out for a while with a cuppa, or getting my hubby to have a go.
This simple project was easy to make, cheap and quick.
Having an ironing board in the sewing room will make my life so much easier, and as I don’t have the room for a full-sized board to be in there, this is a great alternative.
Here are a few pictures of it all coming together.
If you need a little ironing board to tuck away in the corner give this a go. It won’t be good for ironing huge tablecloths or full circle skirts but for all those collar facings, or teddy bear dresses this is just the thing.

Have you been on Pinterest?
or maybe you are slightly addicted to Pinterest, like me !

For those who don’t have an idea what I am taking about, Pinterest is a site you sign up to (for free) on the internet where you can store lots of ideas in one place. Remember scrapbooking! Not the photo scrapbooking of photo memories, but the information scrapbooking.

Just say you seen a great idea in a magazine, you want to try that project out, or maybe that recipe you see in Womans Weekly at the doctors clinic, you rip it out and stick it in an exercise book for later. A book, or many books in my case, where you can go back and try it in your own time, all the information in one spot to visit when you need too.
That’s Pinterest.
You can have many boards (books) with different topics in them, but instead of ripping out pages from the magazine you “pin” from one website into your book (board) and there you have it, all those crafty projects, recipes, makeup tutorials, Christmas decorations and beautiful interior designs, all in one place. You can pin from anywhere, any website or blog. You can also search the site for others pinned ideas. It is so much fun and I swear you’ll be addicted and amazed at how creative people are.

There are so many ideas floating around on the site it’s hard not to pin them all.
This is my Pinterest site if you want to have a little look around.
I tend to get excited when I find great ideas and just keep pinning. As you can see I’ve found lots of great sewing ideas that one day will happen and I love Halloween and Christmas, so I have lots of ideas on those boards too. You can tell a lot about a persons interests when you look at their Pinterest boards. And yes I do love to decorate a cake or too as well.
Have fun pinning and following people !
Feel free to link your Pinterest pages in the comments as I’d love to see everyone’s boards.
